a person who does something, for other people or for an organization, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it

To volunteer is to offer to do something that you do not have to do, often without having been asked to do it and/or without expecting payment.

 

 

Volunteers are the core of our day-to-day operation. From those who work in our office to those who help daily with our meals and household tasks, to the many who help with our fundraising events - 2005 saw a total of approximately 7808 volunteer hours given to our organization.

 

Revenue Canada has officially valued one volunteer hour at $12.50. At the current rate, A Place Called Home’s volunteers have given our organization an In Kind donation of $97,600

 

Men, women & youth – made up of caring citizens, past clients & clients from other service agencies have joined our ranks to work selflessly on many levels. Some of these individuals have needed our support in the past as clients and they relish the opportunity to give back to the community in this way.     

 

Along with staff, our ‘regulars’ have become one large extended family, celebrating birthdays, successes and & offering support in times of need.

 

 

In addition, we receive support through programs such as the John Howard Society’s ‘Community Service Order’.  (A program which is mandated to provide community service through volunteers to non-profit organizations.)
